History[edit | edit source]
The suffix "-genic" / "-genesis" / "-geny" comes from the Greek γένεσις (genesis), and is used to refer to origin or development. For example, sociogeny describes the development of a social phenomenon, something that is sociogenic arises from or in a social context. Similar common terms are psychogenic and iatrogenesis. The suffix has been used in this manner since at least the 1860s[1], often in context of scientific study and observation.
