An antemate is a system member originating from another (past) time period.[1]

Antemates typically have memories from the time they originate from, and oftentimes enter the system with little to no knowledge of the modern-day. The term was coined with non-introjects in mind, but antefictive, antefactive, etc. could also be used.

The term comes from Latin ante, meaning “ago”, “previously”.
