A caretaker is a headmate whose role is taking care for or assisting with the system or other headmates. They may sooth, guide, or help process emotions for system members, including individual headmates, groups, or the system as a whole. Some caretakers look after the the body by keeping up with hygiene or going to work.[1][2][3].
They may struggle with their own emotional wellbeing and self-care.[3]

Caretakers are often considered a form of Internal Self Helper, and has its own subterms: soother, hygienist, guide, etc. Many caretakers look after littles, trauma holders, or other vulnerable headmate types[4].
