Headmate terms can refer to any number of things. A lot of headmates will not be completely defined by just one term or type of term. The subcategories aim to give an overview of what part of a headmate's existence is being described:

  • Does the term refer to something that the headmate can do, an ability or skill they have? Examples could be:
    • an overrider who has the ability to manipulate senses and emotions experienced in the body
    • an artist who is especially artistically skilled
  • Does the term describe a trait that a headmate has, an attribute that is inherent to them? Examples could be:
  • Does the term specify they way a headmate feels or reacts to things, how their experience is unique? Examples could be:
    • a cassmate who doesn't feel much or any emotion
    • a fawn who reacts to threats by trying to appease
    • an age slider whose age changes
  • Does the term explain how a headmate is connected to or interacts with others, their relationships, or how they're connected to their system? Examples could be:
  • Does the term elaborate on a duty the headmate does for their system, a job or task they take care of? Examples could be:
    • an academic who handles outerworld academia
    • a protector who steps in to make sure their system is safe

One headmate may be described by terms of all of these categories. They may be an overrider capable of numbing some emotions or sensory input, a worried and observant swordsperson, a fawn that aims to appease, a patron that steps in when their protected circle is in danger, and a protector who makes sure their system is safe. While all of these terms describe what the headmate does and experiences, each of them focuses on a different section.
