A cocoonic protector is a temporary headmate created by another in the system in a process called cocooning.
This headmate is their own person and not a fragment of the one causing the formation and often can be born without any identity to begin with because of the sporadic and sudden nature of formation and forced fronting.
It is also possible the cocoonic mate cannot switch or access other parts of the system and the system will only have one fronter until the cocoon "opens".
Once the cocoon opens the cocoonic either will die or be place into dormancy.
