Derealization is a type of dissociation that includes feelings of being detached from the world or things around oneself, or a foggy or distorted world. It's described in various ways, such as feeling like a mech pilot in one's own body.
Like other forms of dissociation, derealization is not specific to plural systems. In a plurality context though, it can often coincide with blending.
In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-V), derealization is defined as:
Experiences of unreality or detachment with respect to surroundings (e.g., individuals or objects are experienced as unreal, dreamlike, foggy, lifeless, or visually distorted).
