The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, often shortened to DSM–5 or DSM-V is the standard classification of mental disorders used by mental health professionals in the United States. It was published on May 13, 2013, by the American Psychiatric Association.
It is a manual for the assessment and diagnosis of mental disorders and does not include information or guidelines for the treatment of any disorder. That said, determining an accurate diagnosis is the first step toward being able to appropriately treat any medical condition, and mental disorders are no exception.
