Neurogenic refers to systems that formed as a result of their neurodivergence, or from a mental illness. Usually, headmates originate from the need to cope, or be introjects based off symptoms like hallucinations or hyperfixations. Neurogenic systems may or may not disclose the specific disorder or neurodivergence they have.
History
This term was coined by The Nilda Alliance.
Related Terms
Neurogenic as a term does not typically include PTSD & C-PTSD, as trauma-based plurality is aptly named traumagenic; however, each system can identify however they would like. Different conditions often have their own too, like fixagenic. For headmates in these sorts of systems, specific labels can be attached as well: parative & previme, fixkeeper, or just the general symptom holder.
Although usually adaptive, neurogenic systems can also be spontaneous (like protogenic) or created.
