picrew ( n.)

Picrew is a website that allows users to create avatars. The site, while not created for it, is great for systems to be able to create art of themselves. This can be for icons, personal use, or to just have a way to see headmates if one cannot draw or use other art programs. It has a large LGBTQ+ community as well, and some Picrew creators include pride flags, including some system pride flags.

History

The site was originally created for Japanese artists to upload avatar/icon creators, but around 2019-2020 the site had a boom in English and other non-Japanese users and saw coverage by both mainstream and niche news sources such as The Mary Sue[1].
