Picrew is a website allowing users to create "dress-up" avatars using a large variety of user-made "makers". While not the intended purpose of the site, many systems utilise it to produce images of headmates as they appear in headspace.

The site harbours a large LGBTQ+ community, with many image makers including pride-related options such as flags and pins, some even offering flags representing plurality.

Thousands of icon creators make this site an excellent tool, although it is important to note that not all of these images are free to use; terms of usage are shown on the cover page of each maker, however, so one can easily know whether the author allows usage of their work as icons, headmate references, etc.

History[edit | edit source]

The site was originally created for Japanese artists to upload avatar/icon creators, but around 2019-2020 the site had a boom in English and other non-Japanese users and saw coverage by both mainstream and niche news sources such as The Mary Sue[1].
