Stargazer Syndrome is an informal term for the wistful fantasies a system member may have when considering their old life if they have exomemories from before they became part of the system.

This largely deals with factives, fictives, and mostives, but could also apply to walk-ins, especially if any of them come from a source that is technologically or less advanced than the modern day.

Term origins[edit | edit source]

The term is derived from the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Relics"[1] wherein Captain Picard confides to Scotty that, despite now commanding the flagship of Starfleet, there are times where he misses his first command, the USS Stargazer, despite it being an incredibly inferior vessel from a technical standpoint.

"The first vessel that I served on as captain was called Stargazer. It was an overworked, underpowered vessel, always on the verge of flying apart at the seams. In every measurable sense, my Enterprise is far superior. But there are times when I would give almost anything... to command the Stargazer again."
