A system exclusionist is an individual or system that holds strict beliefs about plurality and enforces those ideas on others, often in relation to causation. They often seek to exclude other kinds of systems from general plural spaces, believe other systems are faking or mistaken as to their own identity, or otherwise seek to exclude others from identifying as plural.

System exclusionists are not those who believe that DID/OSDD-1 systems should have their own spaces, or that traumagenic plurality is different than other forms, but rather those who exclude others from being considered plural entirely.

History

The term sysmed is modeled after the term transmed, as both follow the similar ideology: A certain phenomenon is only valid if they fit precise medical definitions and ideals. The latter is short for both transmedicalism and transmedicalist. However, pluralphobia did not come from transmedicalism. Sysmed as a term originates from Twitter in late 2019, but no specific coiner exists for it.

Gatekeeping in general has been around since at least the early 2010s. It is applied to many communities, including the plural one.

Gatekeeper, system gatekeeper, or syskeeper is often a synonym. System gatekeeping in particular involves the act of policing or nit-picking terminology usage, origin, size, pretense of certain headmates, or similar. This gatekeeping is done on the premise of determining whether a system is valid or should be included in plural/multiple spaces.

Sysmed (or sysmedicalist) is another synonym which refers to systems who apply strict medicalized ideas of plurality. Sysmeds prioritize clinical/disordered (e.g. DID and OSDD-1) experiences over others, and typically don't believe in endogenic systems. They often disparage inclusive plural spaces,.

Anti-endo (short for anti-endogenic) refers specifically to those who seek to exclude endogenic systems from plural communities, often believing that (forming from) trauma is a requirement to be plural.

Controversy

Gatekeeper can also refer to a system role, often found in gateway systems or traumagenic systems, as they come from the same definition of monitoring or limiting. Care should be taken to disambiguate when using this term to refer to system exclusionists to avoid harm towards such headmates.

Not every system uses the term sysmed due to not wanting to compare sysmedicalism and transmedicalism. This can be due to feeling that they aren't able to make the comparison or because they want to acknowledge differences between the two ideologies and histories.

Some systems also feel it may be too close to the term "traumascum" as it was coined with a similar idea, and avoid using it.

Anti-endo is also avoided by some systems due to the origin of the term "endo" (the shortening, not the full endogenic) from system exclusionists.
