OriginOld Norse

A berserker is a headmate that demonstrates extreme hostile behavior towards the system or/and external people, or is completely indifferent to the concept of healing. Unlike some interpretations of persecutors, they aren’t trying to help and they aren't ''misguided protectors''. Their nature is destructive or simply careless.

Berserkers act based on their feelings, impulses, urges and desires.

This may be considered a type of persecutor that explicitly does not fit the connotation of misguided protector.

History[edit | edit source]

In the Old Norse written corpus, ''Berserkers'' were those who were said to have fought in a trance-like fury, a characteristic which later gave rise to the modern word ''berserk'', meaning furiously violent or out of control.

This type is considered to be rare and mostly present in polyfragmented systems, although it's very possible that systems don't know about their existence because they are usually kept away. This fact has been noted after careful consideration, community votes and the lived experience of hundreds of systems.

The term ''Berserker'' started to be used by the coiner since April 2021 after realizing the existence of headmates who didn't want to be called Persecutors or ''misguided protectors''. After a community vote, it was stated in a public Instagram post as an official term, in 11th of February 2022. The post can be viewed here.
