A dæmian is an individual with a dæmon presence which they are aware of and communicate with. The terms "dæmian" and "dæmon" typically indicate a creator/created or discoverer/discovered relationship, analagous to relationship-describing terms in other communities like soulbonder and soulbond or tulpamancer and tulpa.

Not all dæmians conceptualise their experience as plural. Many consider themselves and their dæmon "two parts of a whole" (without considering their experience median), or consider their dæmon an imaginary friend with fauxtonomy only. The proportion of dæmians using a plural framework is growing over time.

Some dæmians choose not to create or interact with a dæmon, instead only participating in a second pillar of dæmonism known as "form finding" - exploring a number of community- or self-derived "(personality-typing) systems" that assign an animal or animal-like creature to a personality by interpretation of behaviours, folklore or other associations. Both "form finding" and/or interacting with a dæmon are equally authentic ways to be a dæmian.
