Floater is a headmate term with several differing yet largely overlapping definitions:

  • Dissociated, detached parts that feel separated from the body.[1]
  • Hidden observer parts that are not part of any restrictive or managed structure (such as sisasystems), especially in the context of programming.[2]

In case of the latter two definitions, it is hard to pinpoint when they first came into use, since they have become somewhat common terms in their respective fields.
