Floater is a headmate term with several differing yet largely overlapping definitions:
- Headmates who aren't connected to one system and usually go between sidesystems/subsystems, having easier access to them than other system members outside of those systems do. (as coined by NeonWebb)
- Headmates that can freely traverse between subsystems. This is often a gatekeeper. (as coined by humorsunbalanced)
- Hidden observer parts that are not part of any restrictive or managed structure (such as sisasystems), especially in the context of programming.[2]
In case of the latter two definitions, it is hard to pinpoint when they first came into use, since they have become somewhat common terms in their respective fields.
