heartbeat (n.)

A heartbeat is a headmate that fronts to keep the body moving to complete a task, regardless of how much pain the body is in. They may have a higher pain tolerance, although this is not required.

The term was made with chronic pain in mind, but can be used for any reason.

Shock absorber may be a synonym, and cassmate may overlap in some cases.
