Personality shifting is the act of a system or headmate's personality shifting or changing.

Personality shifts can happen spontaneously or due to an attachment material changing, such as a profile picture or comfort object.

System Role[edit | edit source]

A personality shifter is a headmate that can change their personality at will, or shifts personalities to mirror the person they are interacting with. This headmate may also be a shapeshifter.

A headmate may be a personality shifter for many reasons, such as:

  • Past or current trauma that needed the system to do this for survival.
  • The body is neurodivergent and this role is needed to mask as neurotypical.
  • Any other reason that isn't listed or mentioned.

A personality shifter may also be considered a mirror or masker.

Personality shifting can be similar to soma shifting, where a headmate's form in headspace is changed.
