Stressgenic refers to a system or system member whose origin is the result of stress.

It was coined in order to give a label for "stress splits" that isn't as directly tied to traumagenic systems and disordered systems; however, it is also meant to be a label for systems or system members to use at their discretion.

Reasons a system or system member may choose to identify with stressgenic for their origin:

  • Not feeling like it was "bad enough" to be traumatic, but know that it was at least stressful enough to cause a split.
  • Not being ready to face an experience as having been traumatic, but knowing that it was at least stressful enough to cause a split/have an impact on your life and/or mental health.
