A Tank is a headmate who is capable of handling the brunt of most difficult situations. Taken from the video game class Tank, tanks usually purposely take on difficult situations or tasks so that other headmates don't have to. They usually have a high energy and/or patience so they can more easily get through the situation.

Tanks can be seen as a type of protector, as the role is inherently protective in nature.

Tanks may also be gatekeepers or managers if their ability to get through situations is more subtle than head on.
