Traumascum, short for traumatized scum, is a derogatory term seen as a harsher alternative to sysmed. Like sysmed, it originates from a transgender discourse term, that being "truscum," "true transsexual scum." It refers to traumagenic systems who exclude endogenic systems.[1] It was coined by the Trender System in February 2019.[2] Pluscum was suggested as an alternative by critics at the time, having already been coined independently. Traumascum has been deemed by some to be a slur.[3]
The term is out-of-favor in most plural spaces, being criticized alongside sysmed for such things as suggesting that DID and trauma is an identity and co-opting trans issues.[4] The primary reason it is distinct from sysmedicalism as a term is because its focus is trauma, and because it is insulting in name alone, rather than describing a viewpoint. In particular, it is considered by many to further stigmatize trauma and has caused harm to traumatized plurals as a whole.[5]
A reclaimed traumascum pride flag was created by chainlinksystem in 2019 and has been lost to time (so if anyone finds it, please let us know).[6] Still available is Tumblr user traumascum's traumagenic traumascum pride flag, created in March 2019 and attached below.[7]
