A dissociagenic system or headmate is one that formed as a result of dissociation, be it that the process of dissociation caused it to form, that it was formed as a means of coping with the dissociation, or otherwise.

This may manifest as a system returning from a dissociative episode and discovering that, as opposed to a previous headmate fronting or a hidden headmate coming out of hiding to front, an entirely new headmate has formed and begun fronting.

History

This term was coined in the Pluralpedia Discord server in July of 2021 by a member of Peaceful Dark Clouds, who had wanted a term to best describe many of their headmates' origins. It is not intended to be gatekept to systems with dissociative disorders.

Dissocia is derived from the word dissociation, while -genic is a suffix indicating "produced by", "formed by", or "originating from".
